The gambling industry is recovering rapidly from the impact of Covid-19, according to the American Gaming Association.
The association released its Commercial Gaming Revenue Tracker results from the third quarter of this year this week. Revenue totalled US$9.04bn, up 294 per cent from the previous quarter and has now reached 81 per cent of the third quarter revenue figures of last year.
“This is testament to the gaming industry’s efforts to responsibly reopen with health and safety protocols that allow employees and guests to return safely,” said the AGA president Bill Miller.
He added that a full recovery for gaming is now dependent upon the public health measures put into place to control the virus. “There is a long road ahead, especially as state (in the US) and local officials introduce reclosures and restrictions, making urgent congressional action on addition relief even more crucial.”
In the first nine months of the year, commercial gaming revenue contracted by more than one third (36.5 per cent) compared with the same period of last year, but it has continued to recover from the low of the second quarter.
By the end of September 90 per cent of US casinos had reopened of the 466 in total.
