We\u2019ve launched our third survey into the Most Influential Women in the industry and we want your nominations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To say 2020 has been a tough year would be something of an understatement. The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) took everyone by surprise and has dramatically disrupted work patterns worldwide.<\/p>\n

But its impact has been even more pronounced on women and has exacerbated existing inequalities, especially for those with children.<\/p>\n

The closure of schools and the lack of other childcare options have caused deep divisions within both workplaces and families, with women bearing the brunt of the fallout.<\/p>\n

A study of almost 5,000 parents in opposite-gender two-parent households carried out between 29 April and 15 May for the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) in the UK shone a spotlight on the extra pressures faced by women due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n

The survey found that mothers were one-and-a-half times more likely than fathers to have lost their job or quit since the pandemic began.<\/p>\n

Of those who had continued working, on average mothers were combining paid work with other activities \u2013 largely childcare \u2013 during 47% of their work hours, compared with 30% for fathers.<\/p>\n

In a briefing note entitled, \u2018How are mothers and fathers balancing work and family under lockdown?\u2019 the IFS said there was a risk that, \u201cthe differences we find in how the work hours of fathers and mothers are being affected by this crisis will result in larger detrimental effects on the career progression and earnings prospects of mothers than of fathers\u201d.<\/p>\n

It added: \u201cSeveral of our findings suggest that there is a risk of reversing some of the progress made in narrowing the gender wage gap over recent decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

In April the United Nations expressed a similar view, releasing a policy brief that said the pandemic was deepening pre-existing inequalities, warning that \u201cthe limited gains made in the past decades are at risk of being rolled back\u201d.<\/p>\n

Third Most Influential Women survey<\/strong>
\n All of this makes it even more important than ever that we celebrate those women who are having a significant influence on our industry.<\/p>\n

In 2018 iGB launched our Most Influential Women survey in recognition of the fact that the igaming industry, like many others, had a significant gender pay gap, with women under-represented at its highest levels. We wanted to redress the balance by acknowledging those women who were shaping our industry.<\/p>\n

After the first survey struck a chord, we continued for a second year last year, with nominees again whittled down to a top 10 by a panel of judges. The full list can be found in\u00a0Part 1,\u00a0Part 2\u00a0and\u00a0Part 3\u00a0of our Most Influential Women features published in November.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re now opening up nominations for our\u00a0third survey, the results of which we will be running in our People edition at the end of the year.<\/p>\n

To nominate someone, simply fill in the survey\u00a0here\u00a0and tell us about their most notable achievements. Nominees must be either working within the igaming industry, or working in a position that has significantly influenced the igaming industry.<\/p>\n

Stuck for inspiration?<\/strong>
\n For many of you, a potential nominee will immediately spring to mind. But for those of you unsure who to nominate, we thought we\u2019d round up some of the women who\u2019ve featured on iGB over the past year or so.<\/p>\n

For a start, a couple of women who featured in the list of five runners-up in last year\u2019s survey have provided us with some insight on coping with the pandemic.<\/p>\n

GiG\u2019s chief strategy officer Cristina Niculae provided her take on\u00a0maintaining vision during the economic downturn, while Gambling.com Group\u2019s director of people operations Ellen Monaghan provided her views on the\u00a0post-pandemic workplace.<\/p>\n

There have also been a number of notable female appointments over the past year, including several at C level.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year software supplier GAN appointed\u00a0Karen Flores\u00a0as its new chief financial officer, while Japanese casino developer Ganapati named\u00a0Juliet Adelstein\u00a0as its new CEO.<\/p>\n

XLMedia brought in\u00a0Sarah Clark\u00a0as its chief transformation officer, while Push Gaming named\u00a0Nicola Longmuir\u00a0as its new chief commercial officer.<\/p>\n

At board level,\u00a0Claire Milne\u00a0took on the role of interim chairman at Playtech at the company\u2019s AGM in May.<\/p>\n

On the regulation front, the Belgian Gaming Commission \u2013 known for taking a tough stance and banning loot boxes \u2013 appointed\u00a0Magali Clavie\u00a0as its new president.<\/p>\n

Across the border in France,\u00a0Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin\u00a0has recently taken on the task of heading up the country\u2019s new gambling regulator, no easy task as its remit is much larger than that of its predecessor and there is now a much greater focus on social responsibility.<\/p>\n

Other notable industry moves included Lottoland\u2019s B2B arm Alot Solutions appointing former Nektan chief legal officer\u00a0Abigail Wahnon\u00a0as its new head of legal and compliance and\u00a0Grainne Hurst\u2019s promotion to lead GVC\u2019s corporate affairs, with a focus on RG efforts.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, PMU named\u00a0C\u00e9line Stierl\u00e9\u00a0as its director of communications and DraftKings appointed\u00a0Christine Thurmond\u00a0as its new director of responsible gaming.<\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s Svenska Spel also made new senior hires, appointing\u00a0Kajsa Nylander\u00a0as its new sustainability manager and\u00a0Petra Blixt\u00a0as head of sales and marketing for igaming subsidiary Svenska Spel Sport & Casino.<\/p>\n

High achievers<\/strong>
\n Of course, there are plenty of women who are noteworthy not for moving jobs, but for their recent achievements in their existing roles.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year we spoke with Gamstop CEO\u00a0Fiona Palmer\u00a0about her satisfaction at finally getting the UK\u2019s self-exclusion scheme to the point of being compulsory for all operators.<\/p>\n

We also featured\u00a0Henrietta Dunkley, a solicitor who made headlines last year when she successfully negotiated a settlement against a high street bookmaker worth \u00a3120,000.<\/p>\n

Kindred\u2019s\u00a0Maris Bonello, one of the pioneers of responsible gambling, also gave us a detailed account of how much the industry had moved on in this regard.<\/p>\n

On the regulation front,\u00a0Camilla Rosenberg, director general of the Sweden\u2019s gambling regulator Spelinspektionen, is never far from the news, nor is\u00a0Anna van der Gaag, who as chief of the Advisory Board for Safer Gambling will certainly have a huge role to play in any reregulation in the UK.<\/p>\n

And while her views may seem extreme to those in the industry, there\u2019s no doubt Gambling Related Harms All Party Parliamentary Group chair\u00a0Carolyn Harris\u00a0is also shaping the conversation when it comes to the future of UK gambling regulation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Stateside\u00a0Karen Lenoir\u00a0is currently working on the ground-breaking task of handling licensing for the first mobile-only state of Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Also in the US, women are front and centre of the trend towards deals between content providers and gaming giants.\u00a0Erika Nardini, CEO at Barstool, is a case in point with the deal struck between the online publisher and Penn National Gaming.<\/p>\n

Other women deserve recognition simply for pressing on with major strategic projects during the pandemic period. These include Casinos Austria chief executive\u00a0Bettina Glatz-Kremsner, chairwoman and chief executive of FDJ\u00a0St\u00e9phane Pallez\u00a0and Svenska Spel\u2019s\u00a0Anna Romboli, who heads up the lottery (Tur) business.<\/p>\n

The above suggestions are by no means exhaustive and it is likely there are plenty of other women who deserve to be nominated this year. If you have one in mind,\u00a0get nominating.<\/p>\n
