Yes, the league that\u00a0worked hardest to stall\u00a0New Jersey\u2019s multi-year quest to\u00a0overturn the federal betting prohibition\u00a0is now looking for someone to help them capture those sweet, sweet betting bucks.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the NFL\u2019s new hire will have four main areas of responsibility, only one of which is related to preserving the integrity of its product, while the other three are primarily about (surprise!) maximizing revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Those last three items include growing the NFL\u2019s brand and reputation, growing fan engagement not just in the US but\u00a0internationally, and boosting the value of the NFL\u2019s official data and intellectual property. The new VP will also work with the NFL\u2019s media department to distribute \u201ccontent for gaming purposes and the integration of gaming products into the NFL\u2019s platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report came just 24 hours after the upstart XFL announced that its television broadcasts will\u00a0incorporate betting information\u00a0both on screen and in the commentator\u2019s chatter. League president\u00a0<strong>Jeffrey Pollack<\/strong>\u00a0said the betting info would lead to \u201ca more robust viewing experience that deepens our fan engagement and connectivity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL has known for years that\u00a0betting boosts fan engagement, particularly in viewers who continue to watch television broadcasts of games in which the outcome \u2013 save for a prop bet or two \u2013 is no longer in doubt. But the league\u2019s OTT scare tactics of the past left it with little room to climb down from those sanctimonious heights.<\/p>\n<p>The NFL has ever so slowly been shedding its\u00a0gambling hypocrisy, allowing the Raiders to\u00a0move to Las Vegas, signing a\u00a0betting data deal\u00a0with Sportradar, appointing Caesars Entertainment its first\u00a0Official Casino Sponsor, and signing its first\u00a0official wagering partner\u00a0(albeit on the other side of the world where no one in the US will see the commercials).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the XFL announced Thursday that it had named\u00a0FanDuel\u00a0its latest Official Fantasy Sports Partner after signing both DFS and sports betting partnerships with FanDuel\u2019s rival DraftKings on Wednesday.
