{"id":310,"date":"2019-09-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/kenyan-bclb-reinstates-betways-licence-after-20-tax-introduction\/"},"modified":"2019-09-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T00:00:00","slug":"kenyan-bclb-reinstates-betways-licence-after-20-tax-introduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/index.php\/kenyan-bclb-reinstates-betways-licence-after-20-tax-introduction\/","title":{"rendered":"KENYAN BCLB REINSTATES BETWAY\u2019S LICENCE AFTER 20% TAX INTRODUCTION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kenyan regulator has decided to reinstate\u00a0<strong>Betway\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0operator licence after the bookmaker had agreed to introduce a controversial 20% tax on sports betting winnings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kenya\u2019s Betting Control and Licensing Board<\/strong>\u00a0(BCLB) announced the tax this week, and has since reinstated Betway\u2019s licence after a month-long absence from then Kenyan market.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the 20% tax was only applicable to the winnings for a sports bet, but under the BCLB\u2019s new proposals, the tax will now apply to the stake placed. This controversial decision has led to legal battles and the revoking of the operating license for Betway and 26 other operators.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement that Betway would be allowed to operate in Kenya was announced on the bookmaker\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Twitter<\/strong>\u00a0account.
