{"id":292,"date":"2019-08-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/swedish-fa-hits-back-at-regulator-in-football-betting-suspension-clash\/"},"modified":"2019-08-06T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T00:00:00","slug":"swedish-fa-hits-back-at-regulator-in-football-betting-suspension-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/index.php\/swedish-fa-hits-back-at-regulator-in-football-betting-suspension-clash\/","title":{"rendered":"SWEDISH FA HITS BACK AT REGULATOR IN FOOTBALL BETTING SUSPENSION CLASH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">The<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Swedish Football Association (SvFF)<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>has hit out at the country\u2019s gambling regulatory body,<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">\u00a0Spelinspektionen<\/span><\/strong>, for not prohibiting licensed operators from offering betting on a domestic football club competition, despite its warning of suspected match fixing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">Last month saw the SvFF reveal that it had received reports of match-fixing in 13 games within<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Division 2\u00a0S\u00f6dra Svealand<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and advised\u00a0Spelinspektionen to implement a prohibitive ban on operators which will allow them to bet on the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">However, it was seen that Spelinspektionen declined this request, where it said that the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Swedish Gaming Act<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>does not support prohibitions of other such measures, in order to combat the manipulation of sporting results. The regulator also said that it was working to develop regulations that will address the SvFF\u2019s concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">The SvFF has now hit back with its general secretary saying that the organisation does not agree with the regulator\u2019s\u00a0\u201cnarrow interpretation\u201d of the Gaming Act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">Sj\u00f6strand<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">said:\u00a0\u201cIt must be possible for the responsible authority to make quick decisions in more urgent situations of this kind, otherwise, this must be clarified in the legislation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">The SvFF were also seen to have written to a number of gambling operators in Sweden, where they requested that they halt any betting on the division.<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Svenska Spel<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>has confirmed that it is no longer allowing betting, while<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Bethard<\/span><\/strong>,<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">888<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>and<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Varela Round','serif';\">Unibet<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>have also indicated that they will be following suit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">Sj\u00f6strand added:\u00a0\u201cWe hope that all serious companies will follow, despite the Spelinspektionen\u2019s negative position.\u00a0We cannot wait for the authority to finalise its regulations or to change the law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">\u201cWe are forced to devote considerable resources to monitoring and other measures.\u201d\u00a0Sj\u00f6strand also urged authorities to join the organisation in the \u201cfight\u201d against corruption in sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19.5pt; margin: 0in 0in 19.5pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.5pt; font-family: 'Varela Round','serif'; color: #222222;\">As a result, the SvFF has committed to adopting enhanced measures in order to safeguard Division 2 S\u00f6dra Svealand from manipulation for the rest of the season.
