{"id":159,"date":"2019-01-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/indian-mp-urges-regulation-of-online-sports-betting\/"},"modified":"2019-01-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T00:00:00","slug":"indian-mp-urges-regulation-of-online-sports-betting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/index.php\/indian-mp-urges-regulation-of-online-sports-betting\/","title":{"rendered":"INDIAN MP URGES REGULATION OF ONLINE SPORTS BETTING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>The politician has introduced a bill that would improve integrity in sports and regulate online sports betting.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>India.- Indian Thiruvananthapuram MP and senior Congress Leader Dr. Shashi Tharoor introduced on December 28 the Private member\u2019s Bill in the Lower House of Parliament, which intends to regulate online sports betting and improve sports integrity in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The politician explained that integrity in sports is essential to preserve its beneficial aspects and that it has been increasingly under threat due to unabated acts of fraud and corruption. \u201cMy Bill addresses this issue by criminalising sports fraud, including match fixing and spot fixing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The MP added that a complete ban on sports betting hasn\u2019t been successful and has actually contributed to the illegal sector. \u201cThe law must adopt a regulatory approach and effectively demarcate the lines of permissible conduct in the field of betting or gaming in connection with a sporting event.
