{"id":130,"date":"2018-11-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/first-sports-betting-integrity-group-launches-in-united-states\/"},"modified":"2018-11-29T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-29T00:00:00","slug":"first-sports-betting-integrity-group-launches-in-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc.ng\/index.php\/first-sports-betting-integrity-group-launches-in-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"FIRST SPORTS BETTING INTEGRITY GROUP LAUNCHES IN UNITED STATES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SWIMA is the first such group in the United States and aims to ensure \u201ca safe and secure betting environment for consumers across the country,\u201d\u00a0<strong>SWIMA Chief Integrity Officer George Rover,<\/strong>\u00a0a former New Jersey assistant attorney general and gaming regulator, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The group will partner with state and tribal gaming regulators, law enforcement and other stakeholders,<em>Reuters<\/em>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n<p>The association is taking shape as more and more states are legalizing, regulating and taxing sports betting after the U.S. Supreme Court in May overturned a 1992 law that had barred it in most places outside of Nevada.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">The new group will let member sportsbook operators from any state submit information about suspicious wagers to a central hub and alert regulators in many states, not just their own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sportsbooks, leagues and regulators already do their own fraud monitoring, looking for odd betting patterns, abnormalities, insider activity and other suspicious data.<\/p>\n<p>The new group will let member sportsbook operators from any state submit information about suspicious wagers to a central hub and alert regulators in many states, not just their own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key is to ensure that sportsbook operators are able to connect,\u201d Rover told Reuters in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>He said\u00a0<strong>SWIMA expects to be operational within 90 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The group received help from and is modeled after ESSA, a sports betting integrity group in Europe with which SWIMA will also share information to identify potential fraud that could have a global reach.<\/p>\n<p>On it board of trustees are Stephen Martino, MGM Resorts International\u2019s chief compliance officer and a former state regulator in Maryland and Kansas, and former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones, now Caesars Entertainment Corp\u2019s executive vice president of public policy and corporate responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>So far, member operators, or companies with affiliated licensees, include MGM, Caesars, William Hill PLC, DraftKings and FanDuel Group, a unit of Paddy Power Betfair PLC.
