ONLINE GAMING IN PORTUGAL SEES RECORD REVENUE IN Q4
Portugal.- The national regulator Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) has revealed figures for the last quarter of 2020, showing that overall online revenue rose 74.7 per cent year-on-year to €113.2m.
The numbers were mainly driven by sports betting activity, which saw revenue rocket 89.6 per cent year-on-year to €64.1m.
According to the figures, players wagered €345.6m on sports, up 86 per cent on 2019. Football was the most popular sport to wager on, accounting for 86.7 per cent of all bets. That was followed by basketball a distant second with 5.2 per cent of bets, then tennis at 4.9 per cent.
Online casino revenue reached €49.1m in Q4, an increase of 57.9 per cent on the same period in 2019, making it the second successive quarter of growth for this segment of the market.
Consumer spending within this market was up 70 per cent to €1.41bn. Some 71.1 per cent of online casino bets were attributed to slot games in Q4, while roulette accounted for €12.6 per cent of bets, blackjack 6.4 per cent and poker 4.2 per cent.
Players spent a total of €1.76bn gambling online in Q4, up 69.2 per cent on the previous year.
