EPL CLUBS TO DISCUSS SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENTS WITH GAMBLING FIRMS

English Premier League clubs will meet to discuss whether or not to continue shirt sponsorship deals with gambling companies.

The meeting comes as the UK government examines the issue as part of its review of the 2005 Gambling Act.

The Government launched the review in late 2020. Its call for evidence is set to end on March 31.

House of Lords committee last year recommended that gambling companies should not be allowed to advertise on the kits of sports teams.

Eight EPL teams have gambling companies as sponsors on the front of their shirts, while 17 clubs began the 2020/21 campaign with an association with a betting firm.
