YOUTH HELD FOR BETTING IN SOUTH AFRICA’S MZANSI SUPER LEAGUE
A 27-year-old man was arrested from South Delhi for running an online betting racket on the ongoing cricket tournament in South Africa. Police said that his links are being probed with other bookies.
Police identified the accused Dishant Malik, who lives with his family in Amar Colony area. “Mzansi Super league cricket match was being played in Port Elizabeth in South Africa and Malik was busy in betting from the area of Rajpur Khurd,” police said. The police staff of Maidan Garhi police station received information regarding betting.
“A raid was conducted on the third floor of the building and Malik was arrested red-handed while betting on the league game between Nelson Mandela Bay Giants Vs Durban Heats in Mzansi Super League,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Parvinder Singh. He further said,” Malik receives bets through phone and then places the same as per the betting rates. The profit is shared between him and the person placing the bet. Till the time of the raid on the day, he had placed 59 bets amounting to Rs 3.36 lakh .”
Police said that Malik is currently unemployed and was recently married.
“He earns money through online betting only. He has his own trusted clients and generally receives bets from them. He lives with his parents in Amar Colony, who also own a flat at this address in Rajpur Khurd,”

About seven mobile phones including a dabba phone which was being used for receiving rates, two laptops, one register having handwritten details, wi-fi router, calculator, laptop and mobile chargers have been recovered. A case under section 3/4 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act has been registered. Delhi Police data reveals that (till May), as many as 980 cases registered under gambling act whereas last year, nearly 1,391 were reported.
The data further revealed as many as 3,347 persons nabbed in 2019. Last year, 5,707 accused were arrested after they were found involved in different types of gambling.
