PREMIER LEAGUE APPOINTS ‘FRESH FACE’ SUSANNA DINNAGE AS CEO
The Premier League has confirmed the appointment of Susanna Dinnage as new Chief Executive replacing incumbent Richard Scudamore who will depart the organisation at the end of the year, ending his 19-year leadership tenure.
A leading media and entertainment executive, Dinnage is the currentPresident of Discovery Networks UK & Ireland (2016-2018), leading operations and commercial planning for the American multi-media firm’s UK/IRE properties.
Dinnage becomes the Premier League’s first female leader and third overall Chief Executive following the league’s inception in 1992.
The appointment of Dinnage has been well received by UK sports media, detailing that a ‘fresh face’ was needed within the EPL’s leadership structures.
“Susanna is a leading figure in the broadcasting industry, a proven business executive and a great developer of people. She is ideally suited to the role and we are confident she will be able to take the Premier League on to new heights.
“We are very pleased to appoint such a capable leader to this important role,” said Bruce Buck, Chelsea’s chairman and chair of the Premier League’s nominations committee.
Dinnage a Fulham FC season ticket holder has no prior experience within football and will lead the Premier League as it enters a key transition period handling the impacts of Brexit, within an audience disruptive multi-media landscape.
Sports insiders will be monitoring how Dinnage handles the complicated relationship between football fans and the league’s commercial opportunities. A dynamic that has brought criticism on Premier League management as fans have seen significant rising costs.
