RETAIL BETTING REACHES €490.6 MILLION IN ITALY IN 2018
During the first seven months of the year, the Italian retail betting market reached €490.6 million, fueled by the FIFA World Cup.
Italy.- The FIFA World Cup was won by the French national team but the gambling segment could also consider itself to be a winner as it posted great results all around the world. In Italy, the retail betting sector generated revenue of €490.6 million between January and July, mainly pushed by wagers placed during the biggest sporting event in the world as €2.5 billion was wagered during the period.
As reported by Italian gambling news outlet Agimeg, Naples was the market with the most revenue collected during the last seven months as it reached €71.4 million. Gamblers wagered €448 million across the 1,263 retail betting points across the region.
The capital city, Rome, and its surrounding area recorded a €39.2 million revenue, with betting turnover of €223.5 million and came in second. Milan followed them both as it recorded bets of €139.6 million and revenue of €26.3 million.
The news outlet reported that the country’s overall sports betting revenue reached €852 million in the first seven months of the year, which meant a 43.3 per cent increase year-on-year.
